Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort hosted a Ribbon Cutting event on Sept. 9 to commemorate the 25th Anniversary and renovation of the resort. Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce President Ted Owen and Chamber Ambassadors joined hotel owner Jim Watkins, Grand Pacific Resort Management Co‐President David Brown, Vice President of Resort Operations Nigel Lobo, Regional Director of Resort Operations Doreen Bechard, General Manager Randal Chapin and Reconstruction Experts representatives in showing off the property’s new look.
In 1985 developer and entrepreneur Jim Watkins stood at the corner of Highway 101 and Elm Avenue (currently Carlsbad Blvd and Carlsbad Village Drive). He envisioned a property that mixed hotel, timeshare vacation ownership, restaurants and retail in a resort setting—a first in the United States—and saw a flourishing tourism industry in a sleepy beach town.
25 years later Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort celebrates serving the Carlsbad area and its bustling tourism with a Grand “Re”Opening and renovation. The well‐loved property which is managed by one of Carlsbad’s largest employers, Grand Pacific Resorts Management (www.gprmgt.com), completed the renovation on the hotel’s 61 guest rooms, condo units, event spaces, lobby, library and exterior leaving a bright and fresh feeling.
Carlsbad Inn has much to celebrate along with the property improvements. The exceptional service guests receive while staying at the Carlsbad Inn is a long standing tradition and can easily be attributed to the employees—1/3 of the staff has over 10 years of service for a total of 496 years—and their commitment to conveying that California charm Carlsbad Inn is known for.
